Supportive, Dedicated and Attentive

Hi! I’m Emily! I am an Academic Coach for Staying Ahead of the Game, LLC. I have a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Gonzaga University and a Master of Education from University of St Thomas. I moved to Houston from Seattle to get my Master of Education. Although I miss the coffee and mountain backdrop of my hometown, I am feeling more and more like a Houstonian as I fall in love with tacos and build my tolerance for humidity. Over the past eight years, I have served as an educator and founded three academic programs at low-income schools in Houston. Currently, I am teaching at Regis School of the Sacred Heart.

My experience includes researching new curriculums, mentoring the staff on instructional strategies, and teaching with the most creative and effective methods. I love discovering and implementing new strategies that might help students with different learning strengths master challenging content! The challenge and excitement of working alongside students with diverse personalities, unique approaches, and varying skill sets has allowed me to effectively harness the child’s strengths in order to help them grow in confidence. My creativity, enthusiasm for learning, and experience with various learning differences makes me a strong mentor to students working through a variety of challenges at school. I want to teach students that their mistakes are not a failure. Rather, they are teachable moments that can enable them to grow and learn.
