Hi! I’m Shen! I’m an Academic Coach for Staying Ahead of the Game. I attended Georgia Institute of Technology, where I received a Bachelor’s degrees in physics and aerospace engineering. I continued my studies at Texas A&M University, where I obtained my Master’s Degree in aerospace engineering. I also have certificates as a Project Management Professional and Lean Six Sigma Green Belt. I have enjoyed my education so much, so it was important for me to find ways to help students excel in their own academics. Seeing the light in the students’ eyes as they learn something new or grasp something they were struggling with before is an incredible feeling.
One time, I worked with a student who was struggling to stay interested in math. I decided to use a nonconventional way of teaching to find a breakthrough. I used Roman numerals and Babylonian numbers as a way to make things interesting for him. The student loved it. Now, math is one of their favorite subjects. It is important to me to find creative ways to motivate students, so they will take ownership in what they are learning and the work they are doing, creating a passion for learning in the process. .
