Hi! I’m Tijhala! I am an Academic Coach at Staying Ahead of the Game LLC. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology at Queens College and Master’s degree in Special Education. I have had over 10 years of teaching experience in the classroom, as a tutor, as well as training other teachers. I am a certified teacher both in Special Education and English and Language Arts. I enjoy helping students to achieve their maximum potential. Furthermore, I believe that targeting executive function skills in addition to academic skills provides a more holistic approach to achievement. I love partnering with my students through their process of growth and development and to help them achieve their goals. I love how coaching invites them into the process of inquiry and decision making rather than them being passive recipients of solutions. I always tell my students that who you are is more important than what you know! You don’t know everything! The best teachers are lifelong learners. Always be humble and willing to learn in spite of your experiences.
